Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, damping loss factor

The elastic properties needed to feed acoustical models based on the Biot's poroelasticity theory are in vacuum properties.  For isotropic poroelastic materials, the elastic properties to be characterized are: Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, loss factor.

Equipment: Quasi-static mechanical analyzer
Standard:  ISO 10846-2 (for mechanical setup and dynamic stiffness)
Method:  Quasistatic mechnanical characterization of poroelastic materials [1]
Property:  E- Young's modulus (Pa); ν - Poisson's ratio; η - damping loss factor
More than 1000 porous materials characterized

The method is based on the dynamic compression of two samples of different shape factors (s1 and s2).  This enables the simultaneous characterization of the three elastic properties. The method is valid for the frequency range 10 to 100 Hz.
