The 2-Gas Ultrasonic Tortuometer (or Ultrasonic Refractometer) is designed to obtain measurements of the tortuosity and characteristic lengths of a wide range of porous materials typically used in noise monitoring. The system uses the 2-gas transmission method, which achieves the characteristic lengths in addition to tortuosity, and the reflection method. The transmission method is suitable for materials with low resistivity, while the reflection method is more suitable for more resistive materials. The reflection method requires porosity as an input parameter.
