The VBT system measures the Young's modulus, the shear modulus and the structural damping factor of elastic and viscoelastic materials. The method is based on the measurement of the entry mobility of a free-free beam excited in its center. It is valid for a frequency range from 10 to 5000 Hz.

All Mecanum VBT systems come with a verification steel beam as well as a starter kit which includes glue, steel uniform beams, aluminum uniform beams and mounting screws. The VBT-X software measures the entry mobility of a free-free beam excited at its center as a function of frequency.

A modal decomposition accompanied by a genetic algorithm makes it possible to extract the resonant modes and to determine the mechanical properties of the material.

Like the Oberst beam (ASTM E756-05), different types of beams can be measured.
